As we mark Labor Day and the importance of rest and community, we also begin Suicide Prevention Month. It's a reminder that open conversations about mental health can save lives. While suicide remains a leading cause of death in the U.S., it is also preventable. By learning the signs, reaching out, and sharing resources, each of us has the power to help.
Prevention is about more than responding to crisis. It’s about creating a culture of care and connection. A simple check-in, a heartfelt question, or encouraging someone to seek support can be life-changing. Together, these small acts build stronger communities where no one has to face struggles alone.
Throughout September, EveryMind will share resources, stories, and ways to get involved. We invite you to join us—learn, talk openly, and remind yourself and others that help is always here. If you or someone you know is struggling, call, text, or chat 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support is available 24/7.
988 Day is September 8th and is for showing up — and caring out loud.
Mental health matters. And 988 provides judgment-free support 24/7. On 9/8, help spread the word that help is just three numbers away.
Post. Share. Text. Check in. However you show up, it counts.
Need ideas? We’ve got you. The 988 Day toolkit is live — packed with sample posts, graphics, and ways to get involved.
Compassionate Help. Anytime. Anywhere.

It's been a busy back-to-school week for our school-based teams! Pictured, our Walt Whitman High Bridge to Wellness staff kicked off the school year with a fun mental health trivia table, welcoming students and sharing simple self-care reminders.
We loved connecting with Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Dawn Moore at MACo. Their commitment to mental health, veterans, and youth echoes the heart of EveryMind’s work across Maryland.
