Happy August, Valued Partner!

As we enter the final stretch of summer, August is a time of transition and opportunity. This month, we’re excited to share updates that reflect the strength of our community, including the inaugural Women’s Community Veterans Engagement Board (CVEB) meeting and helpful back-to-school mental health resources for students and families. We’re also beginning to look ahead to September and Suicide Prevention Month, a time to come together in support, awareness, and hope. There’s so much happening at EveryMind—and we’re grateful to have you with us.

988 Update: What You Need to Know About the “Press 3” Change

The national “Press 3” option for LGBTQ+ callers to 988 has been discontinued as of July 2024. While this federal change removes the direct route, support is still fully available. EveryMind continues to answer 988 calls, texts, and chats 24/7 with compassionate, inclusive care for anyone who reaches out.

First Women's CVEB Meeting

On July 24th, EveryMind's ServingTogether held it's first Women's Community Veteran Engagement Board (CVEB) meeting.

The Women’s CVEB is a collaborative, community-driven board focused on the unique needs and strengths of women veterans across the DMV region and beyond. We bring together veterans, transitioning service members, spouses, caregivers, VSOs, and community partners to connect, advocate, and celebrate women veterans.

We wanted to give a special thank you to everyone who joined the first meeting last week, both virtually and in person! This milestone gathering marked the launch of a new space to elevate the voices of women veterans and strengthen community across the DMV. To learn more about women's CVEB, check out our website below. Join us at our next meeting on Thursday, August 28th.

Looking Ahead: Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Next month is Suicide Prevention Month—a time to raise awareness, share resources, and remind our community that help is always available and hope is real. At EveryMind, we’re committed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and ensuring that no one feels alone in their struggles. As a 988 Lifeline call center, we provide assistance in a variety of ways. Whether you're seeking local resources, in need of crisis support, or simply want someone to listen, please know you are not alone—just dial 988.

Suicide prevention is also at the heart of our work with veterans through ServingTogether. In partnership with the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program and the AmericaServes network, ServingTogether provides coordinated care and critical mental health support to service members, veterans, and their families across the National Capital Area—and beyond. Our Care Coordination team helps veterans navigate complex systems and access life-saving services, ensuring that no one is left behind. With over 14 years of experience and three years of dedicated SSG Fox programming, we remain steadfast in our mission to reduce suicide risk and promote lasting wellness in the military community.

Follow us on social media throughout September for information, stories, and ways to get involved. Every conversation makes a difference.

EveryMind was proud to serve as a host site for Montgomery County Public Schools’ Summer RISE (Reimagining an Innovative Student Experience) program—a two-week initiative that gives rising high school juniors and seniors hands-on exposure to local workplaces. This summer, we welcomed ten students who explored careers in mental health and the nonprofit sector, gaining real-world insight into the impact of community-based work. We were especially thrilled to see one of our students, Paola Boch-Gomez, selected as the student speaker at the Summer RISE closing ceremony. “I saw [Summer RISE] as an opportunity to explore—to stop guessing and start doing,” she shared. In her speech, Paola reflected on how her time at EveryMind helped her discover her strengths, confront challenges, and feel more confident in her future career path. View the full closing ceremony here.

Last week, EveryMind was proud to take part in the free Community Support event for Federal Healthcare Workers earlier this week, sponsored by EML Nonprofit Consulting. By uniting speakers, resources and community organizations, the event offered a one-stop hub for connection, encouragement and support.
